Join me and my wife Mary on a great river cruise from Travel Leaders Discovery and Avalon river cruises. In Belgium, we’ll dock in Ghent, Brussels, and Antwerp and explore the Belgian countryside. In Holland we visit Amsterdam, and dock in Rotterdam and Middleburg.
The vacation features guided tours led by knowledgeable guides that expose you to culture, food, art, shopping, and historical sites. Tours are designed for a variety of activity levels—you can kayak the canals or take walking tours through historic neighborhoods. We’ll visit charming villages, create Belgian chocolate, even try Delft tile painting (that will be for my wife, not me!).
Almost all of these tours are included in the package price and the guides are pros. We’ve had university professors, teachers, professional guides and it’s like a 101 course in culture, history and food/wine/beer.
We have always been impressed with the Avalon river boats that offer the best service. The cruise includes all meals, happy hours, snack rooms, lounges, a sky deck, and comfy rooms. The chef prepares meals featuring local dishes, but there’s always a steak on the menu for guys like me!
One of the great things is we have many guests who have been on several trips with us, so it’s sort of like vacationing with a bunch of your friends.
