August Wuyts 1887-1971
August was born in the Village of Ekeren at Hagelkruis. August left Antwerp on the SS Finland on 25 April 1908 and arrived in New York on 5 May 1908. August applied for citizenship in 1914, citizenship granted in 1919.
Lydia Ludovica Vleminckx Wuyts 1891-1951
Lydia was born in Lokeren East Flanders of Belgium. According to 1930 US census, Lydia immigrated in 1913.
Homestead in Kaukauna
August and Lydia were married 5 October, 1914. This is their homestead at 1005 Augustine Street in Kaukauna. It was built on land previously owned by Augustin Grignon.
Children - 1926
August and Lydia had ten children. From left, Albert, Emma, Annie holding Carl, Bertha and Harry. About 1926. One of the children, Jack Richard born in 1924, died shortly after birth from abdominal aneurysm.

Their three oldest sons fought in WWII. From left, Harry, Carl and Albert Woodrow Wuyts. Albert Woodrow Wuyts was named after the king of Belgium and the President of the US.

August worked for CNW Railroad as stationary engineer. Prior to coming to Wisconsin, he worked in a logging camp in Northland, Michigan.
August’s sister, Bertha
Bertha Wuyts Michels DeGrawe (1888-1934). Bertha was born in Antwerp and died in Chicago of Cryocarditis.

Bertha and Harry August DeGrauwe (1889-1972)
Bertha and Harry married in 1921. Harry was born in Ghent and died in Ontario, Canada. He arrived in the US from Canada in 1913 and served in the Army during WWI from 1917-1919.
August’s aunt, Emma
Emma Wouters Saelens (1882-1963) was born in Belgium, daughter of Petrus Franciscus Wouters (1842-1892) and Maria Constantia (Boiy) Wouters. (1850-?) She died in West Allis, Wisconsin. Photo was taken at a logging camp in Northland, Michigan. Emma with (from left) her children Minnie, Julia, Joseph and dog Prince.
