The historic cemetery adjacent to the Belgian Heritage Center is the final resting place of some of the earliest settlers on the Door Peninsula. There cemetery was established in 1860. By the 1960’s, the cemetery grounds had settled due to the natural settlement of the underlying burial sites. The gravestones were cast into a concrete foundations to stabilize them. It was an effective solution over a long period of time. But now, over 60 years later, the concrete foundations are need repair. Project cost is estimated at $35,000.
Donations are needed to cover the cost of this important historic restoration. Donors contributing $600 or more will be recognized on a plaque at the cemetery, in their own name or in memory of someone at rest in the cemetery.
